Wantage Mummers bring laughter, song, and centuries of Christmas tradition to the Vale of White Horse this Boxing Day

Boxing Day wouldn’t be Boxing Day without the laughter, music and mischief of the Wantage Mummers, who once again invite everyone across the Vale of White Horse to join them for a day of festive tradition and theatrical fun.   This much-loved local troupe will take to the streets on Friday 26 December for their annual Mummers Play, a lively mix of verse, song, slapstick and good- hearted silliness that has delighted audiences for generations. The cast – all volunteers – bring to life colourful characters from English folk tradition, complete with eccentric costumes, quick wit, and a generous dose of festive cheer.

The day begins at 10am in Faringdon Market Place, followed by performances at 12 noon in Wantage Market Place and 1.15pm at Childrey Village Hall, where
the fun continues with music and song. Audiences are encouraged to gather, cheer, and soak up the community spirit that makes this such a local festive highlight.

Last year, the Mummers’ efforts raised an impressive £2,500 for Vale Community Impact, supporting vital local services, proving that tradition can do a world of good.
Come rain or shine, the Wantage Mummers promise merriment, mayhem and meaning in equal measure.
